Nashik is among the fastest growing cities of India. From a sleepy little town that basked in its mythological, historical and religious glory, Nashik today is one of the cornerstones of the prosperous golden triangle of Maharashtra with the other two being Mumbai and Pune.
Nashik has seen prodigious development in almost every sphere over the last couple of decades. The city has witnessed the rise of a number of wine parks, educational institutes, IT parks and major tourist attractions.
- A City of Pilgrimage
Nashik is a must-visit destination for people seeking religious and spiritual fulfillment. The city is most famous for its associations with Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Trimbakeshwar, on the outskirts of the city, is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country. Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself, spent 14 years in the enchanting wilderness of Tapovan near Panchavati. Vani (Goddess Durga), Shirdi (Sai Baba), Taked (mythological confluence of holy rivers) are some of the other notable places of religious importance. The river Godavari, which is among the holiest in the country, also originates here in the Brahmagiri mountains. Finally, Nashik is also the only place south of the Vindhyas where the Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years.
- Rising Industrial Powerhouse
Nothing illustrates the growing might of Nashik as an industrial hub better than the recent Central Government decision that puts the city as a major development point in the soon-to-be launched Mumbai-Delhi Industrial Corridor Project. The State Government has played its part by announcing the development of the Golden Quadrangle Project, which aims to create massive industrial infrastructure between the four nodal points of the state, viz. Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad.
As for existing infrastructure, the MIDC has developed extensive industrial estates in four spots near the city, viz. Sinnar, Gonde, Ambad, and Dindori. This, when combined with the aforementioned major projects, will catapult Nashik into the big league of Tier-I Indian cities.
- Connectivity Options Galore
Nashik is connected to almost every part of the country via road and rail networks. Ambitious and innovative projects like the Nashik-Mumbai Expressway have further brought these two cities closer. A similar initiative is soon to be taken up with the Nashik-Pune Highway. The recently constructed flyover running through the heart of the city is further proof how Nashik is truly on the move. Work on the passenger and cargo terminal at the Ozhar Airport is also in full swing. This will further improve connectivity as well as cut down transit times by huge margins.
However, the one project that will truly redefine Nashik’s landscape is the Mumbai-Delhi Railway Corridor. Once finished, traveling time between Mumbai and Nashik will be reduced to under an hour. The project is also likely to cause major population relocations from Mumbai to Nashik, thus decongesting the former.
- Growing Educational Hub, Fabulous Climate & Immense Natural Beauty
Nashik is home to two highly prestigious universities, viz. MUHS (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) and YCMOU (Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University). The city also boasts of a number of notable and reputed institutions cutting across different sectors like engineering, medicine, hotel management, law, business management and many more.
Since the ancient times, Nashik has been known for its unmatched climate and natural beauty. It has extremely low levels of pollution, which is aided greatly by a wonderful topography. The city is nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range, which is known for its natural flora, fauna and historical significance. Nashik is also a major agricultural hub due to its fertile soil and wide availability of water.
Nashik is also the undisputed ‘Wine Capital’ of India and has held onto that position for many years now. More than 30% of India’s wineries are located here. The city is the largest producer of grapes as well as onions. Recently, floriculture has come up as a major activity with Nashik’s farmers due to the favourable climate conditions.
- Top Class Medical Care
A healthy city is a growing city!
Nashik has seen the establishment of a number of general as well as specialty healthcare facilities and hospitals over the last decade. Major national chains like Wockhardt and Vasan Eye Care have made their entry into the city with many more to follow. A lot of specialty doctors have also made Nashik their home, thus enriching the city with their expertise.
